Aaron Rehel says the structure will be in place for a successful varsity football program in Greater Sudbury this summer.
Just how many Sudbury Gladiators teams hit the field will depend on the level of interest, but the former coach is feeling optimistic after the executive, hit by heavy turnover following the 2018 season, received a strong show of support at a recent meeting.
“It was a nice turnout” Rehel said. “A lot of new faces have stepped up in the community to help out. We’re going through a bit of restructuring on the executive end, but so far, so good.”

This time last year, the varsity Sudbury Gladiators were sitting around the high 20s in terms of the number of players registered to suit up for the local Ontario Football Conference product.
But a surprising trip to the league championship game and an increase in effort towards getting more players to come out, has led to more than 50 players having already signed up for the Gladiators’ 2017 season, the team announced at a press conference at James Jerome Sports Complex on Monday.

Riley Roy is seeing the field from a slightly different angle, but he's liking the view.
The Sudbury Gladiators defensive back, who switched from safety to corner for the 2017 Ontario Football Conference varsity season, believes his team is in a great position to follow their OFC final appearance last year with another winning campaign.
"I'm pumped for the season," said Roy, moments after the Glads completed their inaugural Blue and Grey intrasquad game at James Jerome Sports Complex this past Saturday.
